Growing up in the South you can't avoid food. We use it to pass our history from one generation to the next. We use it to offer comfort in times of sickness and grief. We use it to bring joy to a celebration, and to welcome new family members and neighbors.
I am a product of this environment, however the real love of food is all due to my mom. In elementary school she owned a cooking shop and taught cooking classes. We gathered around the TV and watched Julia Child. I stood beside her at the stove as she taught herself to perfect crepes or poaching eggs. As a result she instilled in me a fearlessness in the kitchen.
I have been cooking for most of my life. I love food - reading about it, looking at pictures of it, cooking it, sharing it and most of all eating it. In my kitchen perfection smothers the fun and chaos of cooking. Expect a real look at my quest to find some inspiration and fun around supper. Success around here is measured in the number of family members that will eat what I cook.
